Alparslan: The Emergence of a Visionary Leader

In the premiere of Alparslan: First, the audience is witnessing the central character of the series named Büyük Selçuklu, Alparslan who is the newly anointed sultan of the Seljuk Empire. The episode is also essential to setting up the empire’s present condition, including conflicts within and conflicts outside. This paper argues that Alparslan is painted in a portrait of a highly perceptive and seasoned general and political minded individual. Possibly, the episode painting him at the moment he assumes the mantle goes further to depict his ordeal once in power; which includes establishing order and ensuring the empire is stable. It is depicted how Alparslan made initial efforts to solve these problems through his relations with strategic partners and antagonists, laying the groundwork for his grand endeavours of replenishment and management of Seljuk Empire’s defences. 

 The second episode focuses more on the difficulties that Alparslan encounters in the beginning. When he starts introducing his measures, the challenges of managing a rebellious empire arise.
