Ertuğrul Gazi: The Rise of a Leader in the Kayı Tribe

1. Background information of the Kayı tribe

 The first episode presents the whole story setting: the affair of the series is set in the fields of Asia Minor, at the beginning of the 13th century, at the Kayı Obası, one of the Turkmen tribes. The tribe is represented by a rather enclosed group of people who are united by traditions in which honor, bravery and loyalty are primary values. 2. Ertuğrul Bey's Character

Halime’s character brings the aspect of romanticism and the mysteriousness into the story and her past and conflict involved in the series becomes also linked with the destiny of the Kayı Tribe. 

 5. Knights Templar as a Threat

 The Knights Templar come to be as a serious opponent. Their arrival is a major threat from outside world to the existence of the tribal communities of the Kayi. Thus, the Templars are endowed with their own political and religious agendas that stand for the major struggles of the period. They are known to be ruthless and very intelligent making them a formidable foe for Ertuğrul and his trestles increasing the tension.

Ertuğrul acknowledges his guidance and wisdom in many instances, which is evidence of Ertuğrul’s development as a character. The character Ertuğrul aims to follow the footsteps of his father, Suleyman Shah and this forms the yardstick by which Suleyman Shah’s leadership is measured. 

 9. Political and Tribal Alliances 

 The series also demonstrated how power relations in politics and tribes work. Thus relationships with other groups must be seen and managed with both trust and suspicion for Ertuğrul and his tribe. It is underlined once again that everyone needs friends, especially in political and power struggles in order to be able to survive and triumph; Thus, Ertuğrul has a diplomatic battle.

 The situation with the Knights Templar and other enemies increases tension, so the Kayı Tribe has to step into the war.
